Rogers trying to get in through the back doorre. Rogers website messages irk Google Rogers' complaining that it doesn't have e-mail addresses for its broadband customers as an excuse to insert ads into third-party web-sites is ridiculous. It doesn't sell broadband Internet access without e-mail accounts. Moreover, each account has a master e-mail account associated with it in case Rogers isn't sure who to send the usage notification message to. Rogers also already sends "bulletins" to each e-mail address it supplies, so it also keeps track of all the e-mail addresses a customer may have through them (in my case, I have the master address and a personal address, while my wife and children also have their own personal addresses. Some account types only provide one address however). In short, their excuse for trying to plant Rogers' ads on web sites doesn't stand up to scrutiny. This instead appears to be a case of simple greed. Rogers saw an opportunity to push more expensive service plans but didn't look at the ethics or etiquette of their actions. Gary Dale |
