Services, not low taxes wantedre. 'Let's start listening to council's opposition,' Editorial, June 15.
Well, surprise, surprise. Sure, they may find support at the Albany Club for a low-tax agenda. But many real people out here in east Scarborough really like the services this city has to offer, including the new, condo-free waterfront park we all enjoy, brought to us by our tax dollars. We have seen enough of politicians who promise low taxes and we know what this means. It means cuts to the parks, libraries, buses and other services used by the people of this city. Perhaps even cuts to municipal water quality, a-la-Walkerton. Let these opposition councillors come out here, ride the overflowing Lawrence bus for a few hours, and explain to us that there should be cuts to transit and roads, fewer city staff to clean up glass and needles from local parks, cuts to swim and library programs, etc., so they and their Albany Club friends can pay lower taxes.
